Dug in the sandstone with a labyrinth pattern, the Caves of Camerano stetch belowe the city centre for at least 3 kilometers. The people of Camerano have started digging the caves since the beginning of the history of the settlement and through the centuries they have been elarged and modified becoming an underground city. For a long time it was thought that they were the remains of ancient sandstone quarries or even wine cellars. However, explorations, interpretations, and the modern walkways, which have made these caves accessible today, have revealed the presence in almost all areas of architectural embellishments, carvings and decorative details that do not fit in quarries or simple storage rooms: domes, barrel vaults, circular rooms and decorative columns, decorated with friezes, ornaments and religious symbols are constants along the entire route.
The caves unravel in front of an often impressed visitor, showing an underground town almost like a charming fairytale, a secret Camerano were both history and legend are real.

Weg

The tour extends for a kilometer under the city centre of Camerano. It is possible to enter only with a guide and it is possible to take photos as long as the visitor stays with the group.

Large dogs are not allowed inside the caves. Small dogs must be carried in the arms or in a carrier for the entire duration of the guided tour. The route is not accessible to wheelchairs and strollers due to the presence of stairs along the route.

Beratung

During the summer period we recommend visitors to bring a sweatshirt or jacket given the constant temperature of the caves of around 14 degrees and to wear shoes suitable for the route. Slippers and flip-flops are absolutely not recommended.

To book a guided tour, you can proceed as follows:

• AT THE TICKET OFFICE: in this case, no booking fees will be applied, but seat availability will be verified at the time of purchase.

Once the purchase is complete, tickets cannot be refunded.
If you cancel your tour, you can still transfer your tickets to a third party.

It will therefore no longer be possible to book by phone, except for events for which the booking method will be expressly indicated.

Wo zu parken

For cars we recommend parking starting from Via Loretana 1.

For campers or buses on organized trips there is the possibility of temporarily parking your vehicle in the area immediately adjacent to the Camerano Sports Hall located in Via Bagacciano.

This is not a reserved rest area but it is a convenient point to leave your camper or bus for the period of the visit.
It is then possible to reach the entrance to the Camerano Sotterranea on foot in 10 minutes by going up Via San Germano and following the small staircase that appears on the opposite side of the road (Via Loretana)
N.B.: Buses will have to drop off tourists at the end of via Garibaldi before accessing Piazza Roma. Heavy vehicles are NOT allowed access to the square.
