Arch of Traiano - Ancona
One of the most important Roman monuments in the Marche region
The Arch of Trajan is one of the most important Roman monuments in the Marche region. It was built by Apollodorus of Damascus in honour of the Emperor Trajan (115 AD).
It is located in the port of Ancona and in the summer you can stop for an aperitif in one of the bars in the port area and enjoy the sunset over the port; the monument’s lighting in the evening is particularly impressive. Also worth seeing the Roman Walls of the port built in 113 BC when Ancona became a Roman Town.
