LAURENTIAN JUBILEE

POPE FRANCIS grants Laurentian Jubilee in order to mark the 100th anniversary of the declaration of Our Lady of Loreto as the patron all people travelling by airplane.

The jubilee year will open on December 8 (feast day celebrating the Immaculate Conception) and will conclude on December 10, 2020 (Holy house’s transfer anniversary).

On March 24, 1920, Pope Benedict XV named Our Lady of Loretothe main patron saint of aviators before God” thus meeting the desires of many airplane pilots who were military veterans of the First World War.

The Laurentian Jubilee will be addressed not only to the military pilots (Italian air force academy) but also to all civil people travelling by plane and all those who will visit the Holy House of Loreto as pilgrims.

The Vatican secretary of State, cardinal Pietro Parolin, will open the holy door on december 8, 2019.

During the jubilee year “pilgrims can obtain the plenary indulgence passing through the Holy Door in order to ask God for the gift of conversion and to renew filial devotion to Virgin Mary who protects us during our travels by plane” (Fabio Dal Cin, archbishop of Loreto).

The Laurentian Jubilee will be the chance to rediscover the devotion to Our Lady of Loreto but also to “get a deep insight to the originality of the shrine which is not based on an appearance or prodigiuos image but on a real house. The Holy House is a religious element because it is the place where Virgin Mary was born, raised and where the Holy Family lived. At the same time, it also represents a strong element of universal anthropological simbolism: it recalls all the values and the roots that accompain every single man. Simbolically, it is the big house of the whole world(Fabio Dal Cin, archbishop of Loreto).
