The musuem of biroccio of filottrano
The Museum of Biroccio, offers a glimpse of rural life '900
The museum of Biroccio offers a slice of farming life of the 19th century. In Filottrano, among the Conero’s hills and the countrysides, you can discover the folklore and the rural traditions at the Museum of Biroccio Marchigiano. The biroccio is a two-wheels cart normally dragged by two oxen, very traditional in the middle area of italy.
Used both for the agriculture and as a means of transport for human beings and merchandises, often it was placed in tombs as a grave goods, to symbolize the passage towards an afterlife. You can find here in the Marche area some rare example, the most peculiar of the whole Italy, painted with vivid colors, decorated with floreal patterns and various shapes (due to the different territory they come from). The Biroccio museum in Filottrano will show you the history of this vehicle, but will give you also a snapshot of that past life. Appendix, the vestments of the oxen who dragged the birocci. To guide you in this tour, there will be the members of “Associazione dell’Ara” that will tell you, with passion and dynamism, all the details about this rural life and all the curious anecdote of the local folklore.
